I totally understand what you witnessed because I was that mother. When I reflect on my parenting years, I realize that I was so afraid of shattering my daughter's self-esteem that I let her "win" too many times. When I finally decided enough was enough, the balance of power was so out of whack it couldn't be righted. I feel sorry for both the mother and the child.
