My Husband Died Last Week
I shared a few remarks at his funeral
Doug and I met as students at Westminster Seminary in Philadelphia in November 1980. He was the guest speaker in my apologetics class, and I was thoroughly impressed by his ability to make complex ideas easily accessible.
We started talking after that class and never stopped. Eight days after we met, I proposed. He liked the idea, and we were married 14 weeks later.
Doug fit my criteria for a husband: he was a committed Christian, well-educated, and available.
During the past several years, we have faced daunting challenges and extreme medical problems, but Doug never complained or questioned why God allowed these trials in our lives. He accepted, with grace and equanimity, the sovereignty of a loving God.
No matter what I did for him, he always thanked me. We prayed together almost every day for the nearly 44 years we knew each other.
There's so much more I could share, but I just want to say that during these last several years, when both his body and his mind declined, it was truly well with his soul.
