What Can You Do When a Squatter Is Living in Your Head?
This simple advice gave me back my peace of mind
You may not be the type of person who cares what other people think about you. If so, skip this little story, and thank God you are well-balanced.
I always thought I was pretty much immune to other people’s opinions but sad to say, I discovered I’m not.
Here’s what happened
I am estranged from two people whom I love deeply. Not my choice. They chose the estrangement because we disagree about God. I believe in Him. They don’t.
Someone close to me thinks the estrangement is my fault and decided to badmouth me to another person who is equally close to me. I am thankful that the “listener” told the “speaker” she didn’t want to hear anything about the situation. It wasn’t her business.
However, I inadvertently heard about the incident and it bothered me terribly. After all, the gossiper is dear to me, has known me for decades, has spent time in my home, and professes to love me. I felt betrayed.
Here’s what I did
Thinking about it made me sick. Truly nauseous.
I wanted to defend myself.
