Your banner looks nice. I have not read Paul Walker's article but I do think it is a good idea to have a unique banner that clicks through to your request for subscribers. I think you might try the words Subscribe to Medium in black letters rather than outlined. Italics may be a bit hard to read. I like that Click Here stands out. You can't miss it. Good job!
